I am MANUSSA , born on September 5, 1998 in Brussels.

All my life I was fascinated by music and acting, I knew that one day I wanted to do something in front of the scenes and be on a stage.

During my childhood I watched a lot of music videos on television and Youtube.
When I was 14 in 2012, I became even more fascinated by the Tomorrowland Aftermovie. This aftermovie made me dream of playing there one day.

At that time, I kept myself busy mostly with my Ipad and playing on some DJ apps.
One of my best friends told me about a program called "VIRTUAL DJ".
On this I made my first mixtapes using my computer mouse and in 2014 I bought my first small DJ mixer.

 

In the summer of 2014 I was at a dj set of "Oliver Heldens" at Summerfestival '14 in Antwerp.

After this I knew for sure that I wanted to become a DJ !

 

I needed a name and started fantasizing what DJ name I would use.
It was soon a derivation of my name 'Joachim Nsa-Kundo' and called myself "DJ@JOAN$A" (Not very Original)
I made a few mixtapes that I posted on 'Soundcloud' & I released a few songs that I had put together with pre-sets.
I was a fan of the genres : "Future House, Bass house, Dance & EDM...."

As a 'DJ@JOAN$A' I didn't make much progress, and during my time at school, not much attention or need went into getting better.
Until I got in contact with DJs during my time in high school.
So in 2018, I chose to change my name.

 

'MANUSSA'
I chose a different name, a different logo, and wanted to specialize in a certain genre.

BUT FIRST.... Where did the name come from ? 

 

On April 20, 2018, the Swedish top DJ "Avicii" died.
I have always been a fan of his music but unfortunately never saw him live.
After his passing, I wondered where his name came from & so I ended up in Buddhism.
I started looking for nice names there & my eyes fell on the name "MANUSSA".
This name has multiple meanings, such as : HUMAN BEING, MAN, LIVING BEING, ...

The name also had to be linked to myself, which made me think of my name "Joachim Nsa-Kundo" again. If you take the last letter of my first name 'M' followed by the first part of my last name 'NSA' you get --> "MNSA".
And if you pronounce this, you hear very quickly = "MANUSSA".
So the sound "MNSA" & The name "Manussa" is actually in my full name since 1998.

This New Start also gave me a lot of inspiration and motivation to continue and grow in something I love to do.

I released my first songs including "ONE" (2020) and released a first album "1998" (2022) I switched genres and wanted to focus more on house genres.

 

In 2021, I launched 'MANUSSA-RADIO' in which I came up with the concept of uploading a weekly mixtape on Youtube, covering every genre by collaborating with other DJs. This happened every Sunday. It was also made into a live version by a live stream on Youtube. The idea came during the corona pandemic in which we couldn't do much.

 

In 2022, my DJ career really started to take off.
I got my chance in a small club/dance bar 'Bonaparte' in Antwerp.
Here I played live for the first time in front of a large audience.

This was quickly followed by other catering establishments where I could play in and around Antwerp.
In 2023, I got the chance to play in the biggest club in Belgium, 'Versuz' in Hasselt.
I got this chance by participating in a DJ-Contest of Feathers.
Friday, November 3, 2023 I played in Club Versuz for the event Girl's like Dj's.

In March 2024 I got another chance from Feathers, and played for the first time in Carré, Te Willebroek (BE) also on the event Girls like Dj's.

Then followed an invitation from the Belgian radio station: TOPradio
Here I was invited by Michel de Wilde in the weekly program: SMASH!
Where up-and-coming DJs get to play a DJ set and have a chat.

Also in 2024 I played in June at the Festival "DENDERPOP" (Dendermonde).

In August 2024 I played at the Festival : "BEVEREN BUITEN" (Beveren).
